Frequently Asked Questions
Ice climbing conditions can change rapidly — what’s climbable today might be gone tomorrow. This free community-driven platform helps climbers stay informed with real-time ice data including GPX tracks, temperature trends, snowfall history, solar exposure, and crowd-sourced reports from other climbers. IceClimb.org and its companion apps are designed to help the community share conditions, discover routes, and make more informed decisions in the mountains.
This website and its companion mobile apps were created by Jesse Waites in collaboration with BCKPCKR , a boutique web and app development consultancy based in Boston, Massachusetts. BCKPCKR builds custom digital products for startups and growing businesses throughout New England and beyond.
If you’re looking for a reliable partner to bring your idea to life, visit BCKPCKR.com to learn more.
IceClimb.org is independently funded by Jesse Waites as a volunteer contribution to the ice climbing community. There are no subscriptions, ads, or data sales — just a passion project built to help climbers connect and share information safely and responsibly.
Go to any crag or route page and click “Add Report” — or use the “New Report” button from your dashboard. Include details like current ice conditions, approach info, weather observations, and photos. Clear, accurate reports help the entire climbing community stay safe and informed.
Yes, you can add new crags through the website. (This feature isn’t yet available in the mobile apps.) Because accuracy is critical, please include correct latitude and longitude coordinates and review your submission carefully. All new crags are moderated before being published to ensure data quality and access compliance.
Ice climbing is inherently dangerous and can result in serious injury or death. Always climb within your abilities and with proper training, gear, and partners. Verify all conditions independently, consult weather and avalanche forecasts, and use caution. IceClimb.org and its contributors share information for reference only and cannot guarantee accuracy. You assume all risks when climbing.
